Food For All Services: Maine’s Dignified Food Access for Every Culture
Food For All Services (FFA) a 501c3 nonprofit exists to provide culturally rooted, Halal, and accessible food to Maine’s immigrant and low-income communities. We center dignity, identity, and wellness by offering food access, cultural education, and community care designed by and for those we serve. We envision a future where every family in Maine has access to food that reflects their culture, nourishes their body, and strengthens community ties. FFA strives to create a world where no one is invisible, and where food is a source of healing, connection, and empowerment.
Nourishing Communities with Dignity and Cultural Care
Food For All Services (FFA) delivers fresh, culturally meaningful foods to families facing food insecurity in Maine. Through our Nyumbani Community Pantry, Culturally Relevant Store, and the Halal School Meals Network, we ensure access to Halal, vegan, and vegetarian options for households that are often overlooked by traditional food systems. Centered on wellness, equity, and dignity, our programs remove barriers to healthy eating and affirm the cultures and traditions of those we serve.
Our Community Programs
From healthy school meals to fresh pantry groceries, our programs are designed to meet people where they are by offering nutritious, culturally familiar food in welcoming, affirming spaces. Here’s how we’re building a stronger food access system for all.
Nyumbani Community Pantry
Located on the first floor, this pantry offers Halal, culturally familiar groceries for free, no questions asked. Fresh produce, dry goods, and hygiene items are restocked weekly with donations and contributions from local stores. Such as Trader Joe’s & Whole Foods.
Roots & Rhythm Cultural Hub
Located on the second floor of our Portland facility, the Roots & Rhythm Cultural Hub is Food For All Services’ intergenerational program bringing together immigrant elders, youth, and families to preserve and share cultural knowledge. Through storytelling, language, and culinary traditions, it creates space for elders to pass down wisdom and for youth to reconnect with their roots, strengthening belonging across generations.
Cultural Relevant Store
A community market offering shoppers lower than the market value price for fresh vegetables and culturally familiar foods. Store revenue helps restock our free pantry alongside community donations.
Halal School Meals Network
Based on the second floor, FFA leads the U.S.'s first third-party certified Halal school meals program for K–12 students. Our certification covers Portland, South Portland, and Westbrook school districts. We collaborate with kitchen staffs to offer Halal, vegetarian, and vegan options.
Community Care Delivery
FFA brings culturally rooted, Halal food directly to families who are unable to safely access grocery stores or the pantry. Food boxes are prepared at our Portland space and delivered by trusted volunteers to households across the region. This program prioritizes families facing transportation barriers, safety concerns, or other challenges that make leaving home difficult. By meeting families where they are, Community Care Delivery ensures that nourishment, dignity, and cultural respect remain accessible to all.
Community Food Distribution
Every week, FFA delivers Halal, groceries directly to two of Portland’s three local mosques. This rotating distribution program ensures that community members can access nutritious food where they already gather, pray, and build relationships. It’s one more way we center dignity, trust, and accessibility in food delivery.
